"Trash". One more level before removing discussion for-ever!

When you remove message first, you remove it from view. Only then you have option to remove it forever or restore.
Discussion can have THOUSAND of messages inside and you can remove it by 2 clicks. Without any option to turn back action. That can be too dangerous.

We need option to restore removed discussion or remove it forever just like messages have.

Additionally it would be very nice if we have Trash "Tag" where all removed discussion can be found, Wit option to Purge Trash. So all formerly removed discussion can be removed at once.

As it happens, I know Toby is giving some serious thought now to how the soft delete function should be done.

I also suggested something similar to your Trash tag idea. The problem with that is that it makes the soft delete function dependent on the Tags extension. It really needs to be a core feature. Though as you say, the ability to purge deleted threads now and then would be handy!

Oh, this tag suggestion, was just for example. More likely gambit! is:trash (or :trashed) This would be best. Since as you say, not require Tags extension and not require almost anything at all. Just link to start the search with gambit would be nice. Even more gabit's as we know can be mixed. So is:trash tag:support. When trash gambit is used, in search results should appear additional button. REMOVE ALL Filtered (Founded) .

So we can purge at once whole Trash. Or just part of it. From specific user, tags etc. As you know gambits are mighty.
Or removed individually from trash (forever!). If @Toby didn't want trashed discussion appear for admins on normal lists, trashed gambit would keep them still available and not offending in normal browsing of discussion lists.

amdad Using the gambit sounds like a reasonable approach; though building the purge function into the search results dropdown could pose some issues.

Another way to do it might be to incorporate a discussion list (filterable by tag, of course) into a "Recycle Bin" page in the admin control panel. It would be easy to put a purge button at the top of such a page.

I did not mean button into dropdown of course. But only on results page. When is:trash is active and there some discussion found, on results page there should be button to remove forever search results from trash. Dropdown quick results are just for quick search. Not for any other actions.
