Keep in mind this is currently an beta version. There is no stable release yet.

Developing an automated updating system is not that easy and it takes time. Wordpress is a huge project with according manpower.

In the tutorial you linked he is working on his local host. Did you add zend-stratigility as well to your installtion? Did you adjust the php.ini as they did in the tutorial?
