Changes to Flarum & Integrating with WordPress

Hey @Toby @Franz, Flarum is an amazing forum software! Thanks for making it and offering it for free! 🙂

I am new to code and still learning. I know HTML, CSS, PHP and basic JS. I went through the Flarum's core files yesterday. Actually I have been thinking of building my own forums using Flarum. I am integrating it with an existing WordPress site. So I was wondering that if I make changes to Flarum's code, then how will I keep those changes as and when Flarum get's an update? The changes would involve CSS tweaks and a few additional feature enhancements to suit my target audience needs. Like adding a header, or changing the login and signup (buttons) position, or adding number of views for threads, and a few user profile enhancements. A bit confused here o_O.

Any advice on how to go about this would be much appreciated.

Never change core files, that's something you always want to avoid for the very reason you mentioned: they are going to be overwritten when you update Flarum.

That's why we made sure everything in Flarum can be overwritten by extending the core instead of modifying everything directly. That way, you can e.g. add additional fields to some database query or API response, you can modify the HTML that is at first generated by Flarum's core to add your own output, or you can add additional CSS rules that add on to or overwrite some of Flarum's own ones.
