Expiring Sticky Posts

Currently Sticky Posts are sticky once and when you view it, they act like a normal post.

That's fine if you're a member the whole time and frequently log in.
If you don't log in though, or haven't logged in for awhile every single new sticky post will be displayed.
That's ok if it's still relevant but if it's not it sits there cluttering up new users. In this site, it looks like many discussions have been manually "de-stickied".

So two ideas

Expiring Sticky
Revolving Sticky

Expiring Sticky will expire on a timer. 1 day, 1 month, etc it will automatically remove the sticky tag
Revolving Sticky will expire when n number of new stickies are created. Eg, if you create 3 new ones, the current one automatically becomes unsticky.

Of course, making both the options optional and the option to make something default would be nice too.

You know, I actually kinda like this idea. Although part of me would just alter the Sticky extension so that it only applies sticky behavior when the OP is edited rather than a reply added, for a more accurate notification of important stuff.

But this could be a good way to make sure that information that only applies for a short time (like a particular month) can be stickied and then float down with the rest of the posts after that time. Might even be worthwhile as a 3rd party extension, just fork the current Sticky extension to make a "Sticky+" extension or something.

Just for the record, you misunderstood the idea of sticky discussions on this forum. Sticky discussions are permanently sticky when you click specific tag. In all discussions view it is like you wrote.

And I also like this idea. It can be a part of extension, that will add super sticky option (for discussions to be sticky in all discussions view)
