Hi everybody, I'm happy to announce the first stable version of my extension! Hope this one's really going to improve the community 🙂
Here are github and packagist.

Update to stable from betas - Package name changed!

I changed the package name to fit the other packages name. So you will need to remove the old one

  composer remove matpompili/imgur-upload

and add the new one

  composer require matpompili/flarum-imgur-upload

flarum-imgur-upload

flarum-imgur-upload is a Flarum extension to support the upload of images to the popular website Imgur, and include the direct link of the image in the post.

Flarum is a free, open-source forum software built with PHP and Mithril.js.

Imgur is the best place to share and enjoy the most awesome images on the Internet.

Features

With flarum-imgur-upload you can attach as many images as you want while writing your post, and it will automatically add the link to the uploaded image in your post!

It uses the Markdown language to include images, so you can also copy the link for other purposes.

You can also choose to resize images down to a maximum size before upload, reducing uploading times!

Install

The only way to get flarum-imgur-upload is with composer: in your flarum folder run

  composer require matpompili/flarum-imgur-upload

Configuration

Since flarum-imgur-upload uses Imgur API to upload your images, you will need an Imgur Client-ID. To get one simply register to the Imgur website, and register an application here.
You need to choose a name for your application (e.g. My Forum), and select OAuth 2 authorization without a callback URL (as shown below).

Once your application, which can be even your own website, has been registered, your Client-ID will be available here. Simply put it in the configuration of the extension, in your admin page.

From there you can also set the maximum image size. If images are bigger than that they will be resized (keeping aspect raio) before being uploaded.

Usage

While writing a post, or opening a new discussion, click on the Attach button. This will prompt the file chooser, if you're on a computer, or the gallery and/or camera if you're on mobile. After the image to upload has been selected, the uploading process will start (which may take some time, based on the image size and on connection quality). Once the process will be completed, the code to include the image will be automatically added in your composer. Have fun!

Beta2 with hotfix for an issue that didn't allowed to post a new discussion after the Attach button was pressed.

matpompili I just downloaded it and was confused looking for the place to enter your API key. You should set it up like the Akismet extension where it forces you to enter a key on install.

Also, when there is an error, it flashes 'error' then goes back to 'attach' without the red.

@Infinity I removed the link, the better way to offer a translation would be to get in touch with @matpompili and work with him directly.

Davis You can set the client ID in the admin extension page, there's a setting button near the extension title.

Maybe I'll force to input one during install with the next beta.

The returning to attach button after error is the desired behaviour, so that after an error you can try again to publish the image, without losing what you already wrote starting a new post.

Davis oh, that's strange. I'm not having this issue. Can you send me the console errors, if there are any, in Gitter?

matpompili There's not any errors displayed in the console. The button has an error because there is no API key.

Although, I noticed the image I inserted with your extension is served over http. Imgur supports https, use that.
If needed:

$securelink = str_replace('http://','https://',$givenlink);

Like Davis it could be very nice to insert a https link, not http.
Is it possible to select the album where images are uploaded ? I see nothing about this on imgur and no image on my profile, yet I uploaded pictures on Imgur since the extension. It seems not be related to my profile. Do you think it's possible?

Hiob First of all thank you! I think that depends on your imgur configuration. I think that by default the uploaded images are not listed. I'll check and I'll let you know 😉

@Infinity If you can offer a translation, please create a file like this one and request a merge to the repository. If you don't know how to do that, please upload the file to something like pastebin and I'll include it in the next beta 😉

Instead of using https or http use links without protocol:

http://foo.bar/link-to-file
https://foo.bar/link-to-file
//foo.bar/link-to-file

All three work, but the first will be loaded over http, the second over https and the third will be loaded based on the current protocol you are visiting. So we are visiting https://discuss.flarum.org using the third option, the file will be loaded using https.

I've just update the extension to v1.0.0-beta.3 and links still posted in http.
I deactivated and reactivated it and edit my client ID with new one. Did you already pushed it? :p

About the uploading to a specific album: imgur request the authentication to upload images to an album. The extension, for the moment, does not authenticate: while being registered with the client ID, it uploads images anonymously (not tied to any user). It would need a server side part to manage the auth process, while at the moment it runs only on the client. I'll consider adding it as a feature in the future, since I found more pressing the issue of long uploading times (due to large images taken by mobile phones, they need to be resized before uploading).
