Yes, I'm aware that "free" will only get me so far, and I don't plan on running this with lots of people, etc. (Not to mention that you have to have some sort of a subscription first (I have a Dreamspark subscription) so it's not necessarily "free") However, Esotalk, which uses the same hardware and DB setup, performs very well vs. Flarum - which is why I posed the question

So some sort of underlying framework/engine or just the way things Flarum does is different than Esotalk, and would like to know what that is/are.
Kakifrucht I do not run it locally, however it's using the same setup that Esotalk does - MySQL from Cleardb. This isn't a VPS so unless someone knows of some hacky way to get a MySQL server running in a web app (which probably isn't a great idea given the resource restrictions of the web app), that's not going to be doable. However, Cleardb didn't report any queries or such taking a long time to execute from what I've seen.
