So I ask about a forum for mods and admins that only they can see and access, I am told that the forum has none.
I asked for all old posts to be locked as we are having an issue with Scammers and Spammers resurrecting old posts to build up reputation and posts and then you get URL creep, starting with genuine URL's of known sources like oogleg and ahooy to name a couple examples, then you get spam.
Another type is where they have a question, asking for help.
Considering that the site is aimed at web development, when you get an IT company posting a question for help with installing XAMPP on localhost, you have to ask youself if the Flarum filters are stringent enough.
In a nutshell, your software with the lack of moderation tools access to vital parts that under our old board I had unfettered access and was able to root out a Spammer / Scammer that had been lurking around the forum under many guises and personas and their primary account was 13 years old.
Not to diss my fellow moderators, as much as I admire their technical ability, mine is not exactly coding but more forensic in nature. The coding I do tends to be optimised for efficiency, maybe I should get in to ASM.
You need to be having the same sort of tools that most generic boards have, that being access to IP records, thats how to find Scammers and Spammers like the Tech support Scam I stopped yesterday from having people follow its link that when I tested it, something tried to popup something, the most popular method of scamming people, popup = phone number over virus alert, etc... Scammers than remote in and steal your important information, especially address books, contacts, banking information, etc.
Everything that surrounds problem posts is limited to that post when it should be that a thread started, if the original Post (the starter of the thread) is spam and flagged as spam, then the whole thread should be removed if deleted and if deleted the immediate option to ban should be presented with the default set to FOREVER
Incidentally, if you have a banned member and go i nto the same tools, why does it have theat same set of options, the only options should be to change it to a time limit or to unban the user.
It takes up to 9 clicks to deal with one Spammer, under other boards I have admin and modded in, its 3 maybe 4 at most to deal with a problem post or user.
My suggestion is to plan an action tree:
Deletion of a post because it is spam currently for me to avoid any errors is to do the following.
Go in to the post, open a new window with the users profile.
Delete the flag or tell it its not spam (as that process is part of the errors I am getting)
Delete the thread
Ban the user
X-fingers, no errors.
By errors, I am talking about the ever growing flagged list of posts that are all errors from other mods that stick in my list when clicked because they really shouldn't be there.
The tool box is lacking the tools that I used to use in order to fight spam.
The date cut off on some threads, one thread I believe is 15 years old and still going, it however causes problems when I load it as it takes ages to load and when it does, displays from the first post when really ordering should be most recent post shich I find you have the ability to go to when there is a new post in a thread, as I have been deposited at that latest thread but seems an issue with very long posts. Maybe a reverse order lookup and load last 30 or so posts by default on all threads, that way its most recent postings presented and if people want to go all history mystery tour, then they would need to scroll back and the server deliver the previous pages, bit like a reverse scroller, if you follow.
PLEASE, we need a console for admins and moderators and an area but I am told Flarum has nothing like that.
