At the moment decentralized social networks based on activitypub growing.
Is there a plan to add a feature connect different flarum instances (login, remote posts, ...)?
Users would have the format <user>@<instance_domain> like an email address and mention remote users would be @<user>@<instance_domain>?
I know it's a little bit late to implement it because it needs to change same basics (I think), but forum software with federation / fediverse would bei awesome and I don't know a project with try to implement it yet...
There have been successful attempts to retrofit ActivityPub on other system, for example this one for Wordpress:
No reason something like this can't be implemented as an extension 😉
I don't think anything special needs backing in core for federation-like networking to work, cross-posting/mentions could already be implemented with current extensibility.
There are now two relatively generic php libs that might allow this more easily:
If anyone else is working on this, I'd be interested to collaborate. I've done some research and started messing with this stuff (haven't got anything substantial yet though)
I also shared your request here:
I've published a repo of my project, so I'll talk about that on this thread:
Hey all. I'm the author of https://github.com/pterotype-project/activitypub-php. I've been coordinating with squeevee about finishing the library and getting it to a V1. Progress is steady - the roadmap is at pterotype-project/activitypub-php#5. Really stoked to see excitement about the Fediverse spreading!
Love the idea, keep us posted 👍️
