Highlighting Quotes within Comment hover

One thing I spotted when playing with your awesome quoting UI, was that the Quoting hover preview (see the image if you're unsure) didn't locate the quotes location within the entire body of text.

Here's a non-artistic example of what I mean -

I feel that just simply highlighting the quoted text in this hovered version, allows me, and others to add context to that text very quickly by locating the text before or after the quote, without needing to read the entire message.

I believe that this could also be applied when the user clicks on the hovered preview > is brought to the original > then sees the text highlighted. This highlighting should then disappear when the users click somewhere else.

This is mainly to avoid moments in forums when someone isn't perfect, and they're just not 100% optimal at quoting text. Yes the current system work in eliminating a lot of the issues found with this common forum problem, however, if there are paragraphs of text in the original then there's going to be a nightmare for people to find the quotes source location within the original.

Discovering here that it only shows the start of the comment within the "Hover Preview". So here (the comment I'm replying to) the user is unable to see the quoted message at all, within the preview.

I understand what you're looking for, but the current quote implementation that includes a link/hove back to the post doesn't really have any way to verify that the rest of the quote text is accurate or preserve it.

Like, I could make you say whatever I wanted:

MrAltF4 a blue example of a rubber duck

Or I could add emphasis:

MrAltF4 but it's hard to find the location within a large body of text

These kinds of situations make it tricky to verify the contents or prevent tampering in order to achieve your desired feature. Adding this would likely have to change the core behavior of quoting, and it would probably remove some of the features (like the ability to easily re-format the quoted text for ease of reading or drawing attention to a part) that forum users have come to expect.

Ultimately, this might be down to user fallibility and something that the software may not be able to compensate for. It's a good suggestion in theory.

Yeah the ability to adjust quotes is something that's common, and it now makes sense thanks to your explanation.

As it's only a quality of life "polish" request. This isn't too big of a deal 🙂

I think the only other way would be to add another feature that is like quoting but isn't quoting. But I think this goes against your design fundimentals of keeping it simple and light.
Also probably wouldn't be used as often.
