saifcoder What MySQL/MariaDB version are you running, and do you have InnoDB as the default MySQL engine?

I suspect the collation is the issue
To find the specific error run this:

SHOW ENGINE INNODB STATUS;
And look in the LATEST FOREIGN KEY ERROR section.

Now the migration is done, but when visiting /public
this error is shown :

An error occurred while trying to load this page.
core.views.error.404_return_link

I thing is because the old one is www.test.com/forum, and the new one is www.test.com/forum/public

how to deal with ?

saifcoder Follow these instructions to remove the public folder from your URL. If you're still experiencing the problem afterwards, check storage/logs/flarum.log and your webserver's logs and tell us what they say.

before i start the instructions to remove public folder.. i found that config.php still pointing to test.com/forum, so i change it to test.com/forum/public, now work fine.

( i will edit this topic to help any one have the same error in the future )

Solution worked for me to migrate from Beta 7 to Beta 8.

Make sure you have PHP 7.1+(with extensions..)
MySQL 5.6+
Apache (with mod_rewrite)

1 - Disable all third-party extensions
2 - Rename Beta 7 folder to ForumBeta7_Backup
3 - Create new folder ForumBeta8
4 - install fresh Flarum inside ForumBeta8 (composer create-project flarum/flarum . --stability=beta)
5 - Copy config.php from ForumBeta7_Backup to ForumBeta8
6 - Copy assets folder from ForumBeta7_Backup to ForumBeta8/public
7 - Make sure that all tables are InnoDB ( ALTER TABLE my-table-name ENGINE=InnoDB; )
8 - run "php flarum migrate" and "php flarum cache:clear"
9 - Change in config.php 'url' => 'https://test.com/forum' To 'url' => 'https://test.com/forum/public'
10 - Its all, now add third-party extensions you need.

saifcoder glad it's storted out. I strongly suggest to configure public folder first, as part of the installation process. The url should never end with /public in config.php for security reasons.

clarkwinkelmann but when removing /public, the forum show error : the page you are looking for did not exist.

saifcoder Make sure you set your document root, and set your URL rewriting:

Document Root can be set be following this tutorial:
