pdo_mysql issue with php7.2 and php7.3?

Hi all.

I'm attempting to install Flarum on an Ubuntu 18 AWS instance.

Everything has gone relatively smoothly, except that in either php7.2 or php7.3, when I enable pdo_mysql in php.ini, I get the following error when I run php -v:

PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library 'pdo_mysql' (tried: /usr/lib/php/20170718/pdo_mysql (/usr/lib/php/20170718/pdo_mysql: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory), /usr/lib/php/20170718/pdo_mysql.so (/usr/lib/php/20170718/pdo_mysql.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)) in Unknown on line 0

I've trawled through Stackoverflow and similar issues online but I can't find how to properly install this php extension.

Any ideas?

its not an Flarum problem this is a server problem.

apt-get install php7.0-mysql ore apt-get install php7.2-mysql im not sure.
than you enable php pdo_mysql extension. i hope thats all

Hi Wumix. Thanks for your reply. I know it's a server problem, but I figured I'd ask since I'm sure I'm not the only person trying to install Flarum on PHP 7.2+. 🙂

I fixed the issue by downgrading to php7.0. It should probably be noted that 7.2 and 7.3 seem to have the package missing, despite it being listed as being there.

Now I have a different problem, where after creating the SQL database and configuring Flarum to use it, I can't log in or do anything without the error, "The requested resource was not found", popping up.

Would the forum display at all if there is a connection issue with MySQL? Not sure how to debug this, as I get an error on creating a new user, password reset, etc. Nothing in the logs folder and I've confirmed the user is in the SQL database.

This is caused by url rewriting, make sure mod rewrite is enabled for apache or that your nginx configuration is in order.

Related to pdo mysql, make sure you install the module from apt for the correct php version.

Nevermind. I've confirmed I'm connected to the database by purposefully changing the password in the config file and proving I can't load the site at all.

Any ideas why I can confirm the admin user is in the database, but Flarum reports that there is no user with that email, and every other action produces the error described above?

luceos Thanks. I'm using Apache. Mod rewrite is enabled and seems to be at least partially functional. I can open some pages like my personal settings. But as soon as I try to change a setting I get the resource error. If I try and open the Admin page I get a 404.

I can't see anything obviously wrong in .htaccess or the vhost config. Is there a something commonly mistaken I should look out for?

clarkwinkelmann Thanks Clark. I'm using php 7.3 now. But I needed to install 7.0 to get the pdo_mysql package. It wasn't possible for me to get it directly for php7.2 and above using apt-get install php7.2-mysql. It would say it was installed, but it wasn't actually on the system. Seems to be a relatively common problem online with different fixes for getting the package.

clarkwinkelmann Flarum beta 8 requires PHP 7.1+

The installation does, not sure whether it complains/misbehaves when actually running 7.0 afterwards 😊

Just checked the error log for apache, and this is the problem:

PHP Notice: compact(): Undefined variable: forum in {removed}/flarum/vendor/flarum/core/src/Forum/Content/Index.php on line 61

EDIT: False flag. I fixed that error as per this fix, but it doesn't fix my issue:

I've found the issue. There was a misconfiguration with my SSL setup. Including www. meant I could 'acccess' the admin page, but the server didn't consider me logged in and wouldn't let me log in. I changed the server name in the vhost config to omit the www. prefix and now everything is fine - as long as you don't try and use the site with the www. prefix.

I think I was encountering a similar issue when first setting up one of my forums. Users trying to access at www. were encountering errors. Rather than changing the vhost config, I added the following to my .htaccess in the public folder – right after RewriteEngine On

# Redirect www urls to non-www
  RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.subdomain\.example\.com [NC]
  RewriteRule (.*) https://subdomain.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]

Of course, you'll need to replace the domain-specific info. And, if you don't have the SSL cert also covering www., I'm not sure if this will work or not.
