Upgrading Flarum to v 8.1 from v 7

am trying to upgrade my flarum from couple of months but no success
so today i tried again in hope that 8.1 will have fixed the issues as previously i had no success with upgrade when v8 was lunched.

so what i did

i created forumsnew folder on my server , :

after from ssh i run command
composer create-project flarum/flarum . --stability=beta

its output was

and it give me error 500
so i checked error log and it showed

which shows that vendor directory is missing ? i checked manually vendor directory and its also missing ??
i checked source on github : https://github.com/flarum/flarum
its also missing vendor directory ?
so can any body tell whats wrong with it

ZahidUllah It looks like there was an error when installing/updating the composer dependencies... try running composer install from /public_html/forumsnew

ZahidUllah This is a composer version error with PHP 7.3. Use the advice in the final comment and replace your repository version of Composer with the one from getcomposer.org.

@datitisev @jordanjay29 ya you guys were right was due to composer , i updated to lastest 1.8 composer now its installed but still giving me error

i copied config.php and assets from my old installations to the new directory as fresh installation is giving me error

so now am getting

Error booting Flarum: syntax error, unexpected '?', expecting variable (T_VARIABLE)

config.php is correct no issue in it copied from my old installation

am on Debian 9 and using php 7.3

ZahidUllah What version of PHP is your command line ?
Run php -v and post the output.

Alternatively, you could try something like this:

sudo a2dismod php7.1
sudo a2enmod php7.3

As katos points out. The version apache uses isn't the one you think.. It must be 7.0 or lower.

@luceos ya you was right it was due to php , i had installed php 7.3 but it was not active , i disabled php 7.0 which was active and enabled php 7.3 , now am getting errors can u check

ZahidUllah sounds like your forum is now broken due to a missing/empty js file. Can you provide the output of php flarum info?

ZahidUllah is it possible that the complete absence of any extension is a source of issues ? I'm not sure

Can you check if the extensions_enabled entry actually exists in your settings table in the database ? If it's absent, you could try re-creating it with a value of []. Or to re-enable all core extensions I think the following value could be used: ["flarum-approval","flarum-bbcode","flarum-lang-english","flarum-flags","flarum-likes","flarum-lock","flarum-mentions","flarum-statistics","flarum-sticky","flarum-subscriptions","flarum-suspend","flarum-tags","flarum-emoji","flarum-markdown"]

I have no idea if that's the actual underlying cause of your issue or not...

For ZahidUllah installation might not have completed in its entirety due to the incorrect php version requirement. I recommend re-installing. This issue might not be the same as the one RFlintstone has.

RFlintstone what error? There were several issues that were happening with OP, some of which have been fixed.

it give error

which mean that tag_user table is missing

The first post has upgrade instructions from B7 to B8. You might just need the php flarum migrate command, but I wouldn't disregard the rest of the instructions, double check that they're functioning as it describes.

Make sure you have a backup of your database from before you attempted upgrading to b8, though.

what i did as i dropped my database , re imported old database from my currently running forum of beta 7

then i did

composer update

after that database migration was success and cleared cache

ZahidUllah I fixed this for the next release. Your hosting environment doesn't allow saving to the temporary folder or it is not configured. You can edit the file mentioned and change line:

$mapTemp = tempnam(sys_get_temp_dir(), $mapFile);

$mapTemp = tempnam(storage_path('tmp'), $mapFile);

Let me know whether that solves it for you. Please note this edit will be reset whenever you update flarum/core (for beta 9 this is not an issue though).
