pentarou yes the custom header HTML is only meant to add code above the Flarum app.
To add content inside the app, you should use an extension and extend the javascript templates of the front-end.
An alternative might be to use the FoF Links extension and use custom CSS to change the look of those links that will already be injected inside of the Flarum app.
