I was just wondering if there was anyone on the Flarum team who is working on screen reader accessibility? Right now the forum is remarkably accessible, but there are a few things I have ran into which aren't usable by blind and visually impaired people with a screen reader. Flarum in beta is already the most accessible modern forum package which is so nice to see.
I guess I was just wondering a few things.
Is there someone who works on keeping it accessible, or is it just lucky chance?
Will the heading navigation stay as a main part of Flarum? This is the biggest issue with all forum packages, no heading navigation.
That's really about it. Right now all blind related forums have to use punbb, phorum, or a modified FluxBB, all of which are quite out of date.
I can't offer much, but I am blind and do use a screen reader so I'm willing to test and help out if it is ever requested.
Also the small things I've ran into which are not big issues, but slight screen reader usability problems.
When reading a topic thread. The heading for each poster's name is part of a list of two items. Then that list stops without a line break before the message content.
For example a screen reader reads:
"list with 2 items Toby link heading level 3"
"link11 days ago"
"out of list Today it is with great sadness that I announce my departure from the Flarum..."
It makes reading the topic quite verbose. If that list could just be moved down to not include the heading, and if there was a line break after the X days ago so it was
"link11 days ago"
"Blank"
"out of list Today it is with great sadness that I announce my departure from the Flarum project."
That and is there a possibility to choose to have it load a new page with only the topic thread when clicking on a topic in a forum listing?
Like I said seeing accessibility already so well done is really good. I just don't know if it was by accident, or if it was intentional. Either way if anyone ever needs someone to go over changes just let me know.
