Starting the installation

Hello community!

I downloaded Flarum through the Composer. I accessed the directory where Flarum was installed, but the installation didn't start. I am trying to use Flarum using XAMPP for macOS. Anybody know the problem?

What exactly happens when you try accessing the install page ? Any error message appears ?

This is not the correct solution.

marcomorotti you need to change your webroot to point to the /public folder. This is this part from the installation guide:

While this command is running, you can configure your web server. You will need to make sure your webroot is set to /path/to/your/forum/public, and set up URL Rewriting as per the instructions below.

If your host doesn't allow to select the website webroot, you should modify the Flarum structure as shown here so that the index.php file ends up at the root of the project https://flarum.org/docs/install.html#customizing-paths

marcomorotti In order to perform the installation, the webserver user (often www-data) needs to be able to write in the Flarum installation folder.

I'm not sure how this is set up in XAMPP but this can usually be achieved by changing the owner of the files, updating permissions to allow group or world write, or update the webserver configuration to run as your own user.

marcomorotti httpd is another name for the apache webserver, so they're asking for the webserver user.
