SnakePromise lack of features, paid extensions for basic functionality and glacial progress over the years is making Discourse or other, more traditional forums more and more appealing.
That isn't a fair statement to make. I'm a developer, and if you consider the core you're getting for free, with its well designed and thought out structure, plus the myriad of free extensions, it does make sense for the Dev team to charge a nominal fee per month for this extension.
You need to consider the literally thousands of hours in terms of development time for the core that nobody will ever get back, and in reality, a paid for system would cost you much more then $10 per month.
