As we started to discuss here the question has been posed as to whether Flarum should even consider officially supporting IE 11. I posing this question for community feedback and discussion before creating a Github issue.
The reason this question is being posed at all is because IE 11 is not fully CSS, JS or HTML compliant, has many security issues and requires an enormous amount of development investment in order to get the forum to work properly in IE 11 without breaking other browsers.
It's also being posed because the overall IE 11 usage is under 4% which begs the question of how many people connecting to a Flarum site actually use IE 11 and do we want to spend so much time trying to support so little users. It may actually be better to display a banner informing users to upgrade to a modern browser instead.
Finally IE 11 support is pretty much dead and even Microsoft now considers it a compatibility only browser. Also as one of the articles in my original post originally linked above they note that companies and individuals will not upgrade to a secure modern browser until their favorite sites force them to do so. Which begs the question of whether we want to continue to advanced Flarum quickly with modern browsers or if we want to advanced but always be concerned about IE 11 and in some cases be forced to put some feature on hold or not implement them at all because of that.
Basically I want people to share their opinions on this matter so that we can all get a better idea of whether IE 11 support is something that Flarum should do because a large majority of people need it too. Or if Flarum should consider IE 11 dead (like many other sites do) and develop with Edge, Chrome and Firefox in mind.
