The double 'back' buttons needs to go

Other forever-scroll non-paginated forums do not have this annoyance. I sometimes mistakenly hit the browser back button instead of the Flarum back button. Please give the browser button the same functionality as the Flarum button and then get rid of the Flarum button.

ron_jeremy What behavior do you expect from the browser back button that you're not seeing?

ron_jeremy Forgive my ignorance, especially since I wrote the software... but in your experience, how do they differ in behaviour currently? As far as I can tell, they're pretty much identical... Which is making me wonder why we have a custom one in the first place. Perhaps it was intended just as a UI cue for the slide-out discussion list?

In any case, I would like to see a discussion take place about this, and am very open to change.

I have wondered why the interface has a Back button, if it only does the same thing as the browser's.

Toby It's extremely useful for mobile navigation, IMHO. On the desktop, it's quicker for me to hit BACKSPACE (which is keyed to use the browser back functionality) and then select another discussion to join, but on mobile I usually hit the top back button.

Toby The Flarum back button does NOT have the same behaviour as the browser back button.

The Flarum button remembers the exact position of the previously clicked post. The browser button does not.

I would prefer to see only the browser back button as long as it has same functionality as Flarum button.

I should clarify that I am speaking strictly from a mobile perspective but would love to see a single back button across all platforms.

I should further clarify that my mobile device is a BlackBerry Passport using default browser. Other mobile platform might not see this behaviour.

They should just do the same thing, I'd consider removing the back button and just have the hamburger button on the top left toggle slide out discussion list on click. If anything, it's the mouseover on desktop that bug me the most.

Berlyn I just sparked up my notebook and using Firefox can confirm the buttons do not do the same thing.

Try viewing 'All Discussions', then scroll to the bottom and hit 'Load More', and then keep scrolling and open a random post.

Hit the 'Flarum' back button. Notice how it brings you back to the same position in the post list?

Now do the same but hit your browser's back button. Notice anything different?

ron_jeremy True. That should be considered a bug.

Toby The reason there is a back button is if you hover over it on the desktop it shows the posts for easy switching. I use that feature often.

Davis I don't have an issue with the hamburger -- I use it too. I'd just like to see the 'Back" part of the button removed.

Davis I think he means removing the < symbol and Back functionality from the button, so that it only can be used to open the panel ... basically what Berlyn suggested.

Dominion Yep, just remove the back functionality, but also make sure the browser back button is fixed to have same functionality.

As long as mobile retains the same functionality. There's no on-screen browser back button in Android Chrome, it co-opts the system back, the behavior of which is unpredictable at times (it can even close the tab if you're not careful).
