Trouble with WPOD

So I am trying to get this up on a local VM before I deploy it but I keep getting the WPOD

Using Ubuntu 18.04
Ran update and upgrade
LAMP (up through tasksel), php-mbstring/curl/dom/gd/json/mysql/fileinfo are installed (v7.2)
Created a user and database in mysql with a password

Installed composer and then ran
composer create-project flarum/flarum . --stability=beta in /var/www/html

chmod -r 0775 for /var/www/html , /var/www/html/public/assets , /var/www/html/storage
chown www-data:www-data for the same directories above

edited /etc/apache2/sites-available/000-default.conf to change DocumentRoot to /var/www/html/public
enabled mod rewrite
restarted apache2

loaded up page, everything is fine until after "install flarum" then it goes blank

Really confused right now

I found other posts talking about the config.php and I changed the debug from false to true and nothing happens

Debug mode causes the Flarum log to contain more data, you can check the log in storage/log directory and paste it's contents here in a code block to get us some more information to help you out.

tankerkiller125 I just checked the storage/log and it seems there are no files at all

suponjibobu Is apache setup to allow .htaccess files in the public folder to function properly?

tankerkiller125 AFAIK it should be, if not how exactly would I do that now?
I assume I would need to reload the apache2 service after I do this too.

suponjibobu https://www.linode.com/docs/web-servers/apache/how-to-set-up-htaccess-on-apache/ is a good guide on it. Unfortunately I can't take support much further than this because it's been several years since I last used Apache. Something else to check though is that Apache is setup to use the correct PHP FPM/CGI path/URL.

Huh, so I found a temporary fix where I did chown -R www-data:www-data on /var/www/html | /var/www/html/public/assets | /var/www/html/storage

and that seemed to let it go from the WPOD to the actual forum

I know that's not the ideal method since it lets www-data write to places it shouldn't, but so far it's on a VM so it should be fine.

Does anyone know what could be the issue from that?

suponjibobu Apache should be the owner of all folders and files in the location, so long as the files are not 777 permission level you should be safe.

Glad it was solved. If there was a white screen (and I suppose 500 error code), the full message is usually in the server logs, like apache error log.

I suppose WPOD means White Page Of Death ? Not an abbreviation I've seen used often.
