Ok. Coming back here, as this issue is NOT resolved. It worked for a while yesterday, but now has stopped working again - unless I clear the browser cache, then it works - for a short period of time before the error manifests itself again.
What I am seeing when attempting to clear the notifications is this

This is VERY frustrating. I really can't stress this enough - I now have users starting to complain of the same issue, so it's not just me, or my web browser. I've taken a complete copy of the site, and put it on another server - exactly the same issue, so it's not the VPS it sits on either.
Would really love to get this sorted out.
