Is there any chance of a mail chimp hookup in the future? Like anyone who creates an account gets added to a mail chimp list? This would be awesome.

gigamick That probably won't be added to the core, because it isn't essential for a forum, but it could totally be a new extension. I like the idea.

Good idea, but you should be careful that it is implemented in a manner where it complies with the CAN-SPAM act.

Yeah I've been building out my new site and almost everything I'm adding that captures data (sumome, maitreapp, my own native forms) pumps everything over to mailchimp. It's super useful.

I might even have a go at building an extension myself if I get to feeling crazy enough. Mailchimp's API is really good.

In fact such an extension would require modification to the sign up screen to allow the user to decide whether to be on that list anyway.. Otherwise it would - in fact - be against the spam act.

Would forum digest emails (similar to what Discourse and NodeBB have) solve for this problem without having to use Mailchimp or an external platform?

I'd love to have an automatic weekly email that sends out new/hot topics to those that have opted in. It would also be nice to have the option to add a custom message.
