username has already been taken during singup

after installing, i register a new user but and show an error plus reload. then i try again using the same username and email, suddenly the username has already been taken. this is weird, any advice? take note this is fresh install.

litoy2x most likely your email settings are incorrect. Flarum fails, the user was created, but the confirmation email wasn't send due to an error.

@luceos which settings are you referring to? i tried to digin also, by default are we going to setup an smtp server on the server we setup, just for sending an email?

and by the way, i've checked the admin page...was there any tab where I can remove a user?

There's a bug that if the email configuration in admin doesn't work, when registering a user, an error will be thrown but the user will still be registered, and will work. This bug is (somewhat) being addressed in the next release (a queue can be used to send emails, which will stop this from throwing an error). As to removing a user, you might want to look into the #5682 extension

To enable a user for which an error was thrown during registration, you can use the "reset password" form. You don't need to delete and re-create the user if you just need the activation email.

askvortsov thanks for the heads-up on the bug. by the way do I need to setup an email server from where I host flarum?

litoy2x you could set up your own SMTP server if that's something you are familiar with, but we recommend you use either the SMTP server provided by your hosting (if they provide one), or use a third-party email relay like Mailgun.
