alx Answers just expose the logic behind storing answers. Instead of storing one answer value per discussion per field, we create one Answer for each unique given answer value, then link it with every discussion where this answer was given.
If you only want to create free text fields, you don't have to worry about answers. It's all managed automatically.
We only show answers in the interface because it gives an easy was to mass-edit what was entered.
