Fresh instal from yesterday. On a2hosting.com shared hosting. 3 accounts registered fine. A 4th person trying to register got the error when attempting to sign up.

No manual extensions added. I did try to enable the Twitter login extension but disabled it already yesterday.

New person trying to sign up got error message "Oops! Something went wrong. Please reload the page and try again." He refreshed to try again and same error.

/storage/logs directory is empty

Maybe enable debug in config.php and try what you did again to see what's going wrong.

Just enabled debut in config and opened the log file, there's already some stuff there. Here are the error lines.

If none of the logs match with the time of the actual error, maybe it's a javascript error that will be visible in the browser javascript console.
