Can't install

Hi people!
Thanks for having helped create a very nice software 🙂

After a bit of SSHing, I did quite some progress in like an hour, going through some php file settings etc.

Then it looks like the installation is finished but I don't know why it doesn't show anything...

Is it because I have to install the MySQL? How?

And these are the last lines of shell messages after what appears to be a successful installation of dependencies:

I think your directory level is not good. You shoul carry your files to up level.

I'm trying to understand your point. You mean it should be up at the root level? That's what I also want! How can I do that without breaking stuff you think??

I think this line in the docs suggest that by default it needs to be at the root and I can use this logic of moving files if I am actually to do the opposite of what I want to do.

However, if you wish to host Flarum in a subdirectory (like yoursite.com/forum) ...

Then it means that I did something wrong I guess, cause it needs to be served at the root..?

So,
I moved all the files and folders in the public repo into the root.

Then edited index.php line 10 like this: $site = require 'flarum/site.php';

Then edited site.php last 4 lines like this (basically only changed the 'public'):

return Flarum\Foundation\Site::fromPaths([
    'base' => __DIR__,
    'public' => '../',
    'storage' => __DIR__.'/storage',
]);

Then uncommented the lines 9-15 at .htaccess as suggested in the doc.

I have to note probably that during the start of the installation, this gave me problems with the directory not being empty:
composer create-project flarum/flarum . --stability=beta

Thus I made this (without the dot - .)
composer create-project flarum/flarum --stability=beta

OK now I made an entirely new installation. The forum is installed but it's in /public folder...

Alright finally, I did it. It was so simple as actually changing the lines at the config.php file:

'url' => 'make this your root domain without the directory...',

Why was it with the public directory for me anyways??

And it'd be great if this was documented...

emin the default install method is to change your WebRoot/DocumentRoot:

You will need to make sure your webroot is set to /path/to/your/forum/public
https://flarum.org/docs/install.html#installing

Then if you execute the web installation wizard while the webroot is already set to the public folder, you will never see the public folder in the URL and it won't be written to the config file.

If that's not an option for you or if you install in a subfolder, the "Customizing paths" instructions are what you can use to turn Flarum into a more "old school" folder structure.
