How to start a succesful community?

Hello everyone,

Can anyone with experience running a sizable community share some experience one this? Some idea that I have and doing are:

Hire people to post to start with
Create clone account and kick start discussions
Focus on a certain aspect before branching out
Social media ads
Mini games, give away and contests

Anything else? How do we lower barrier of entry? How do we convert traffic from social medias or chat server? How did Flarum get this many people (obviously actually having a good product and wonderful are major factors)? I think almost every here want to build a successful and engaging community, so hopefully this would be a good discussion.

These days everyone is sticking to fb groups.

If you want true traffic you need to focus on answering problems/questions which will eventually leads to membership.

Focus on a single category so Google will recognize and give you traffic let's say for example: camera models , adapters , compatibility with other lenses..etc

I do not think money can bring visitors (give away, ads ..etc stuff)

You need to shamelessly recruit people who can contribute from other forums, Discord, Facebook etc. It is very same as the marketing part of any business. Show me a single successful forum owner who haven't poached members from other forums. It is easier to find a needle in a haystack.

Part 2 is advertising on other platforms. Which moderators call spamming. It also needs some very thick skin.
