Novice: The requested resource was not found

Hey. I'm a novice web developer and I had a play with Flarum last night (deploying it via Plesk on a windows server, for which I have ssh and rdp root access)

My 1st impression are that its something I really want to use however the installation process is not that clearly documented for my particular set-up.

As it stands I am continually getting a "The requested resource was not found" error each time I try and make a test post?

Please help.

AntVincent this is caused by url rewriting, usually your web server handles that with apache mod rewrite or with nginx by setting up the shipped nginx configuration. If using xamp or wamp, you have to enable mod rewrite.

luceos thanks for replying. I understand 90% of what you're saying. I'm not using either, I'm running IIS with IIS URL Rewrite installed. Ive tried in import the apache .htaccess file into ISS but getting an error with the following line due to unsupported flags (no idea what that means)

RewriteRule .* - [E=HTTP_AUTHORIZATION:%{HTTP:Authorization}]

Is there a comprehensive IIS installation guide anywhere, please? Trying to glue stuff together here, not very well 🙁

Also help me understand, I don't even have a /public/login, /public/register, /public/admin file or folder?

Ok. After working on this last night (discussions over Discord) and this evening with physical access (but not to the Windows box), IIS is not performing rewrites correctly. I expected it wouldn't. My suggestions as below

Truth is, rewrites under IIS never really work that well. This is why nobody ever installs WordPress on a Windows box. It can be done, but it's really clumsy and hard to support

You could install Apache using WAMP for example and do it this way - that will 100% work
This is how I would address it. You'll need to change the port as 80 and 443 will be in use by IIS, but it'll be native and work out of the box as far as installing Flarum is concerned

The ultimate issue here is that this isn't going to work without a considerable amount of tweaking - even then, administration going forward is going to be problematic to say the least.
