Display topics on WordPress site

I know this might be a duplicate discussion of my recent comment but I felt like maybe it should be its own topic as I'm sure others are trying to do the same, or maybe have already figured out a way to do this and they can share. I tried searching, but found nothing.

I'm trying to display certain topics on the home page of a WordPress site to funnel visitors over into the new Flarum forum site. But I don't want all of the topics, just ones that I tag as such. And I want that tag hidden from everyone but admins & mods.

I tried the syndication extension (see link above) and I feel like that's the first step to grab topics based on a tag in order to display them on the WP site.

I tried Permissions > Restrict by Tag, however that removes the topics tagged entirely.

The problem is I only want admins and moderators to be able to use that tag, but the general public to never see the tag.

Is something like this possible or is there another way to handle it other than to manually add links to the WP site?

chrisduke I can say for sure no extension exists that can do this. However it should be pretty straightforward for an extension developer to build something that could do this by providing a simple api endpoint. It would be very specific to your use case though, so it might be best to get this commissioned...

You want the discussion to be not visible to the public in Flarum, but be visible to the public in Wordpress?

It sounds like it would be simpler to keep them public on both sides, and just disallow users from creating discussions in that tag, and also maybe hide it from homepage.

EDIT: I think I misunderstood, you want the tag itself to be applied but invisible, not the tagged discussion to be invisible. We have invisible groups, but we don't have invisible tags at this time.

clarkwinkelmann That’s correct. I just want to implement a tag that’s only visible to admins and mods. Would this be possible with the development of an extension? And If so, how do I find someone who can develop it for me? Thanks!

chrisduke that's unfortunately not possible with the base Flarum, and I think this would be quite complicated to pull off as an addition to Tags, since anyone editing tags would have to be able to view the tag or it would be very difficult. And that's without taking into accounts the tag requirements that might be set up on the forum.

The easier would probably to design an extension that allows setting a "flag" on some discussions, that would be saved via an additional database column. That way it doesn't mess with the flags.

clarkwinkelmann Thanks for the additional information and possible dev help. Unfortunately for me, I think this is no longer even a consideration. The reason is that I'm using a WordPress plugin called RSS Aggregator to grab the feed, and the Flarum extension to create a feed based on a tag for it to pull from. I would probably also need to have that extension modified, or a new Flarum extension created that provides the same RSS feed creation logic but based on the flag. This just sounds like too much.

I was hoping for a simpler solution. Thanks again, though.
