Register email never arrives using Yandex SMTP

Tried a bunch of smtp services, Yandex / tom / mail / 163. "Please check your email" message shows up every time, but the email never arrives.

Flarum: 0.1.0-beta.13
PHP: 7.3.21
MySQL: 10.4.14-MariaDB-1:10.4.14+maria_focal

Deployed with docker.

John-Theo There's not much we can do when it comes to the SMTP service itself. Is there some kind of error when you try to register / reset password / etc?

Are any outgoing ports blocked in your docker instance or is relaying denied in your network? Have you checked the smtp services for logs?

The weirdest part is that no error shows up and no 5xx response. After submitting the sign-up form, I am asked to verify my email address, but I don’t get the verification email. May I ask what SMTP service you guys use to test this functionality?

John-Theo Discuss uses it's own mail server that we carefully maintain (but it's just a regular mail server), I've seen forums using google, sendgrid, mailchimp, etc. and they all work great. I will note that I've seen several post now regarding Yandex not working well, I think that this might possibly be something on Yandexes side.

I've succeeded using yandex SMTP service. I'm from China Mainland and SMTP servers outside the GFW can be hard to reach sometimes. I noticed the "Encryption" field is seemingly required for mail service to function properly, not quite sure tho.

Here's my configuration in case anyone face the same situation as I did.

Host: smtp.yandex.com
Port: 465
Encryption: ssl
Username: <my_username>@yandex.com
Password: <my_password>

Edit: Also the Sender field must be exact the same as the mailing account.

John-Theo yes, For most smtp services, ssl is a must.
