Save draft messages

it would be great to have an auto-saved draft system. Some unfinished posts could be saved as drafts so they could be finished and posted later.

Flarum already have this feature.

User can freely navigate the boards and quickly click the in-line composer and go back to writing. In-line composer will remain under the boards even while navigating other topics.

Digital It will hang on to the last post you started writing, but you won't be able to create a new discussion or reply to any other threads until you dismiss it. So the feature suggested by @jacko could be useful.

It could possibly be built as a part of the "canned replies" feature that Franz hinted at in this post ... or at least it could use some of the same functionality.

I don't quite get what canned replies have to do with drafts. Why would that be part of it?

Franz I'm thinking of "canned replies" as drafts that are used more than once.

Both are examples post content being saved for future use.
Both need a UI that will allow the user to easily select the saved content and post it in a thread.

The only difference is that drafts would be deleted once posted, whereas the canned replies would remain.

Yes ... and when saving a draft, you could also be offered an option to save it to a community list.

I wouldn't say they need to be part of the same extension. But there seems to be enough overlap that they could both make use of some common infrastructure.
