christicehurst Hey all, I am quite interesting in running a new forum and was thinking of using something pretty modern and different. I don'tr mind using the Beta with some bugs now and there and was wondering if there would be a upgrade path from Beta to a Final 1.0 version, or will we have to scrap the Beta and start afresh?
christicehurst Great to see Toby . There are a couple question that I like to ask too. Will be there be a easier way to do discussions such as WYSIWYG etc because I know modern day people on social media etc have no clue about codes etc. The second question is will there will a easy way to put in audio or video links etc or even upload attachments etc in the future.
Felli Markdown is by default but it has been said that extension will more than likely be made for other text formats. For the second part I'm sure that Toby may add something.
Franz Attachments will be an extension. Embedded audio or video sounds like a cool idea for an extension, too. (Similar do Discourse's Onebox and WP's oEmbed.)
christicehurst Those would be important extensions because mark my words most people will not know what markdown is or could be bothered to remember codes to use it. This is the time of people clicking like buttons and thinking "Can I be bothered to write a message"
Franz Can't we just somehow teach people that actually using the keyboard to write Markdown syntax is just so much faster than switching to the mouse to click a button? 😉
christicehurst Franz You will be surprised at how hard it is to just get someone to join a forum and leave their social media homes - let alone remember codes. They might comment it's not 1990's anymore, where's my instant buttons lol.
Franz Yeah, I wasn't being serious. I assume we'll need a solution for those people. I stand by my opinion, though, that using the keyboard is actually much simpler. 🙂
christicehurst Franz I agree for some, specially for coders and keyboard fast typers too. Not for those who are looking for the "Any key"
purldator Franz Incentivize it. Have a button bar but for every click a trust level metric of some kind lowers itself. Users need reason to not do something. Having the unwanted behavior affect them negatively in a way that they value goes back to psychology 101, operant/classical conditioning. Otherwise, everyone not tech-minded or a stenographer will see that as only an opinion and not to be followed.
nilportugues Maybe a login with social media accounts extensions would be necessary.... Other than that, great piece of software!
