Chrome. What are you doing?

Yesterday I was browsing around in the browser I have a habit of using: Chrome. No reason other than it used to be the best browser when it first got started (IMO). Then I flipped to Safari and... 🚀. Safari was faster. Huh. Chrome devs need to get their head in the game especially for their iOS version. 😜

010101 Chrome on IOS is just a skin of Safari, Apple does not allow custom web engines on IOS. This means that all browsers on IOS are actually just using Safari under the hood.

tankerkiller125 Oh that’s right. I remember reading that somewhere now. Well, maybe that’s why. It’s using Safari plus its features and sneaky Google tracking or something so it’s slower and buggy? I don’t know. Safari seems faster for me (for iPhone).

Personally I'm using Chromium on my linux devices, Chrome for personal stuff, and Edge Chromium for work computer. Firefox is my personal media browser of choice at work thanks to the awesome PiP capabilities on YouTubeTV and stuff.

I have been using the new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge since it was released and have moved over completely from Chrome. I find it more responsive to be honest. No other reason behind it. Before that, I was using Chrome since it was released as well.

It does everything that Chrome does just with better response times in my opinion. It's not a bad bit of kit.

MikeJones Same here, but there again, it's no longer Microsoft's attempt a re-writing internet standards - it's now the webkit engine.

I found the linux version of Chrome to be a lot slower than Firefox.

it was probably so slow because all of the cookies and cache you brought up with you while browsing. I personally use chrome

On my iPhone, although technically pretty much the same thing, I still notice Safari is faster. Even with a lot of cached content. With Safari the loading bar shoots across the screen like a bullet and my Flarum loads pretty much instantly... on shared hosting. But with Chrome, the loading bar is not in a hurry. 😆

It's all good though. I like both browsers. But, at least on my iPhone, I've switched to Safari.

Wait.... do you guys actually prefer Edge to Chrome? I just assumed Edge was garbage and immediately dismissed it.

Edit: What browser are you guys using on Mac?

cmwetherell Original Edge is garbage, the new Edge Chromium (Edge built on the Chromium engine) is actually pretty damn awesome.

cmwetherell On Mac, I bet Safari is best. Just like what I’m experiencing on my iPhone. I’ll throw out a conspiracy theory... I mean, this is the Internet. Apple does something to ensure Safari is fastest on their operating systems.

In fact, I use Chrome as my main browser and Edge as my secondary one. I never used Edge on daily basis, because it was a garbage before so I assumed that it will stay forgotten just like IE was (let's be honest, the only time you ever used one of the official Microsoft's internet browsers before Edge (IE) was when you downloaded other third-party browser).

To be honest, I don't really see much difference, for me Edge is just a skin for Chrome - they both use Chromium and what I mean is that the settings UI is very similar, if not the same, along with developer tools, etc.

Could someone tell me some of the main differences that make each browser stand out, or the reasons why to prefer one above another please? Thanks!
