I started my master's degree at California Polytechnic State University last month and wanted to check in and see who else of you are in college/beyond school.

Always fun to see students getting involved and passionate about software and development!

tankerkiller125 How do you like WGU? I was going to advance my nursing degree through there, but decided that I don't want to do more nursing school. How is the Cyber Sec program? I am working on getting into web development right now.

ChadJessen I really love WGU, really works for me but it's not for everyone. It requires a lot of self-motivation and dedication. But the ability to move as fast as I want (6 classes in one term was my most so far) is very nice to me. I enjoy the CyberSec program but it does require prior knowledge of IT systems (which is why A+ Certificate min is required for entry)

tankerkiller125 That is awesome. I have heard a lot of people say great things about WGU. I have been kind of debating about maybe enrolling into their software/web development program. I have also been thinking about maybe doing their IT or maybe CyberSec program. I have been in computers/IT for over 20 years now. I haven't been doing it full time because I have been in nursing for the last 7 years and in healthcare longer than that.

I might have to look into these programs and see if that is something that would be worth doing compared to self learning, which by the way I have more control over and it isn't as expensive. I do like the idea of self paced.

You all have give me a lot to think about and I appreciate it.

Gonna start my master's degree in software engineering in a couple of months, It should have been earlier but with COVID-19 things got delayed. Right now I only have three final exams in about two weeks, should be fine.

SychO To be honest this is my favorite part about WGU, no building so no delays or problems due to COVID-19 there were a couple issues with the proctor exam people for a little bit but they got that resolved really quickly. Now the only issues they have currently are delays grading written exams and some other small things.

tankerkiller125 that's really awesome, would've loved a similar program, but that ain't an option where I'm from.

I too, attend WGU 🙂 I’m actually 9 classes away until I’m officially done! It takes a lot of motivation and self-discipline as @tankerkiller125 noted 😁

Can’t wait to hold and kiss that BS in Software Development 👀 I’m contemplating going for my Master’s, but only if it comes down to my employer paying for it or I need it in order for me to get a bigger raise.

Ralkage If you getting your BS in Software Dev, when are you going to join the Core Dev team 😛 all joking aside though good luck.

I fully plan on getting my masters in IT management once I complete my bachelors degree, but we'll see how things go. At the moment I wouldn't need it but I think it will probably be important for future job growth for what I actually enjoy doing.

Ralkage tankerkiller125 All the WGU homies! I'm not sure how you guys can do full-time online school all the time, I'm not fond of even half my current schedule being virtual. Mad props to you guys!

@tankerkiller125 When do you expect to graduate?

tankerkiller125 well, we both know the answer to that I believe 👀 other than my busy af schedule, it’s just two of us in QA 😂 I also thought about I.T. Management or whatever that one was called that wasn’t an MBA.

Ralkage I think both are called IT Management, ones an MBA and the other is a MS I think, one is for people with a business background and the other is for people with an IT background.

Kyrne I'm 51% of the way through, 3rd term, at this rate maybe another year, year and half or so? which would put my total time at 3 years. But I did transfer in 14 credits from community college.

And full time online isn't hard when the classes are actually designed for it, I had "online" courses when I went to the community college and they sucked and were very rough on me. WGU on the other hand is easy because of the "do at your own pace" style of classes which means that for subjects I'm already an expert at I complete those courses in literally hours (fastest time to start and end a course was 6 hours, and most of that time was because I was at work and couldn't take the final exam)
