Vietnamese betting spam

Ever since I posted my website on the MigrateToFlarum project, I've been getting betting spam from a vietnamese betting company. I keep banning the IP and deleting the post, but it happens every few days with a new account and a new IP. Anyone else have this issue?

Maybe I will just try to remove my site from the showcase?

This is not a good method, I suggest you use some extensions to block and deal with spam accounts.

xkeyC I tried the ban IP extension. My forum is too small to use the extension that requires new users to make posts before being able to start a discussion. At this point, a lot of people start on the forum by introducing themselves.

If you are referring to my First Post Approval extension, it doesn't prevent people from creating discussions. You can use the extension to hold their first discussion for approval as well.

Speaking as the author of the MigrateToFlarum website, feel free to use the email in the footer if you wish your website to be removed from the list. I'm sorry for the potential exposure to spam it might create. I believe the same happened with one of my little known websites. Unfortunately removing the website after the website is already known to spammers will probably not stop the spamming, just make it harder for other bots from finding it.

luceos Thanks for the idea. Is there a thread about Akismet in the Extensions tag? I couldn't find it (even with search).

I did find the Git repo and tried to install with composer require flarum/akismet which worked.

In order for it to work, do I need to pay for a subscribtion on akismet.com? It's fine if I do, I just want to verify that is what you intended me to try.

cmwetherell aksimet is free if you select a personal license, you can drag the pricing slider to the left, confirm you don't serve ads etc and then use that api key.

As to your missing labels, feel free to flush the cache from the admin area or using php flarum cache:clear, much easier to understand everything that way.
