I need help installing Flarum.

I have been trying to install Flarum for days now. The problem is that I get an error message everytime while running cmd. Managed to google my way around must of them as I am not a developer myself but can't get rid of this last one.

[Runtime exception]
Couldn't delete C:/xampp/htdocs/nydpforum/.: This can be due to an antivirus or the Windows Search Indexer locking the file while they are analysed.

I've been stucked at that point for 3 days and I've tried excluding the folder from search indexer, install all antiviruses and even disabled Search Indexer but still the same error message.
It's quite frustrating but I don't plan to give up. That's why I'm asking for help.

I have looked around online for other instances of that error message and I really can't find much.

Unfortunately it's something to do with Composer and we as Flarum can only guess at what the actual reason could be...

If nothing solves it, you could also experiment with Flarum using a virtual setup (full VM, or something like Vagrant) or using a cheap server hosting.

clarkwinkelmann Whats the disadvantage of using FreeFlarum? Asking because i am beginning to think that will make things easier for me.

clarkwinkelmann seems there are limit to the extensions you have access to one FreeFlarum. Any other?

This is likely an issue with Windows itself, I've seen this a couple of times. Usually the fix is to reboot the machine. I would however recommend WSL or a VM as Windows and PHP are not a great mix generally. (Speaking from personal experience)

try installing this in a linux o/s like virtualbox instead of xampp

I've escalated this issue to the composer team: composer/composer9396

In the meantime try going one directory up and using an empty directory instead of the dot as argument, so from C:/xampp/htdocs

composer create-project -s beta flarum/flarum nydpforum

Make sure nydpforum does not exist or is empty (including hidden files)!

Operating System version
What antivirus do you use? (This includes Defender)
How did you create the Flarum folder
What version of Xampp are you using
What version of PHP are you using

@temmy So I've conducted testing on this myself and was able to replicate this.

For me, I have managed to resolve this by downgrading Composer:
Please can you try:
composer self-update 1.10.17

And then run:
composer create-project flarum/flarum . --stability=beta --prefer-dist
