The site loads very slowly when add too many tags.

Hello, I use flarum on my website. But I have a problem. I added 18 main tags and about 150 sub tags in total. The first load time of the site is approximately 1 minute. When I remove the tags, it opens in 3 seconds. How can I solve this problem?

The server I use has 3 Core and 3GB Ram. I was using shared hosting before, I moved this server for this problem, but I still have the same problem.

This is a known issue, we've had a couple PRs attempt to fix it, but so far we haven't merged any of them due to quality issues or other problems.

The FoF Taxonomies extension (still under development at this time) could help alleviate some of those issues. It provides features similar to tags and could replace secondary tags with an alternative that doesn't pre-load every single option.

Maybe the ReCache extension can help with the situation as it is?

Should there be a warning then or limit to the number of tags you can add until this can be enhanced? I’m just thinking about poor folks who might purchase web hosting solely because they love Flarum. Then they run into this. I know that this is probably somewhat rare. Needing that many tags. And I know that Flarum is still in beta with a warning about using it in production. But still...

This is also pretty interesting to learn. That’s weird that a list of tags takes that long to load. I guess because it’s trying to load all kinds of stats and such with each tag?

Also in the meantime, note to self, keep tags to a minimum. 😆

010101 it takes awhile because of the n+1 problem if I remember correctly. Basically we load every parent tag, and then every child tag of that parent, etc. causing a ton of SQL request and slow loading times on forums with a ton of tags.

tankerkiller125 Oh yeah, I think I remember seeing a discussion about this now that you mentioned n+1. I've got 20 tags (4 main, 16 sub) and Flarum is still blazing fast. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that 50+ sub tags could be the tipping point. FoF Taxonomies sounds promising. Again, an idea is limit core tags and sub tags to 50. If you need more... extension. And nothing's permanent. I know folks don't like the word, "limit." But, a future version of Flarum could rewrite the entire tags set up.
