Change function of asterisk "*" in posts?

Hi! I am running a German forum where the asterisk "*" can be used in a word as part of a conversation. Currently, writing an asterisk automatically leads to italic text, even though an underscore has the same effect. Is there a straightforward way to get rid of star-related text formatting?
I like the rest of markdown so would like to avoid to completely disable flarum/markdown.

Scolasticus unfortunately I don't think there's any easy solution.

It can probably be disabled by hooking into TextFormatter, but that's unfortunately not documented https://s9etextformatter.readthedocs.io/Plugins/Litedown/Synopsis/

You can escape the asterisk with \* on a case-by-case basis, but that's probably not really a "solution" for users who might not even know what Markdown is.

Is there a way to disable the automatic insertion of two formatting characters whenever you type one of it like it used to be before beta 15?

Yeah, I’m noticing now even when you want to put something in parentheses ((like this) you get an automatic closing parenthesis. One issue with this is if you have auto correct on you get double parentheses like you see above ((or here). At least I think it’s my phone's auto correct. Not sure.

It's a tough situation because I know this is done to make formatting easier but... 😳
