Thread is always marked as read - how to reset?

So this is a bit complicated. The discussion was merged from a temporary one and existing one. So far so good. Then installed the "Change post author and date" extension and changed my reply at the end to be on top of the thread (date earlier then the 1st post).

Since then I can see all new replies but on the front page the discussion is always marked as read, even though it moves up in the list.

How can this be fixed? Change in DB or what is triggering the unread class?

I have the same issue on my forum even without "Change post author and date" extension, just after merging two topics. So I think it's a merge extension bug.

phloo the user read state is remember using the last_read_post_number in the discussion_user table. So if you update your last post to be the first I can imagine that it marks the whole discussion to be read. There's no easy solution, one could reset the number value in the posts table for this discussion and then update the read marker state again. This is something an extension like merge should process adequately. However I can imagine it going wrong in certain scenarios.

If you can narrow it down to the merge discussions extension it would be best to report an issue in its repository so that we, the friends of flarum, can look into it.

Okay, so if @Arnold is reporting the same issue without the other extension I am pretty sure we know the root of the problem.
