Extend markdown to disable inline key binding ?

Hi there,

Some users on my forum are disturbed by the automatic insertion of pairs when they press (, [, ", ' etc.

I searched where does this behavior comes from, and if I'm not wrong, it's a feature of mdarea which is used by flarum-markdown.

Would it be tricky to disable this behavior with extend.php ?

ornanovitch I thought we had a GitHub issue for that but if that's the case I can't find it at the moment.

This is very likely something we will revert. We were not expecting this new feature to be enabled by default and it's indeed very annoying.

If someone finds how to disable it, a PR to the Markdown extension would be welcome!

Idk if it helps but here are my two cents:

I guess we could insert a new option here, to disable the inline option which seems to be defined here. But I'm far to be a real dev so I'm leaving this to the skilled ones 😄

That's exactly right! Fixed in flarum/core2569 for beta 16.

Hey guys, I'm the author of mdarea, I'm sorry about this, it's feels so natural to me that I didn't consider others might find it annoying. Just wanted to chime in to say you can enable the inline helpers selectively - the fix posted by @askvortsov looks like the feature was disabled completely, but maybe the basic phrasing helpers like * and _ wouldn't feel as jarring to non-coders as automatic parentheses etc.
