Thousands tags in Flarum. Is it possible?

I'm considering a total switch from my Wordpress site to Flarum (with @JasperVriends Blog extension). At this moment I have around 5000 tags, which I would like to convert to Flarum and somehow use along with other regular Flarum tags.

How would Flarum perform with thousands of tags?

hrvoje_hr Currently, that is unfortunately one of our known scalability issues. @luceos has worked a bit more on this than me.

That being said, I believe it's on our milestone for stable, so it should be a lot better within months.

hrvoje_hr I wish I could say that is wise, but no.

The issue is that Flarum loads all tags when you hit the forum into the HTML as a json payload. From then on those tags are kept in memory of you browser. I made a couple of attempts to solve this issue, but it's not as easy as it seems.

The fof/taxonomies extension could be a solution to these use cases. It can effectively replace secondary tags with an alternative that isn't preloaded with the forum.

I have however refrained from mentioning this extension too often because it's still beta 13 only at this point, but eventually the new version will be available and I'll write about it on the forums.

When you said the tags were for the blog I was wondering how the two will work together. I haven't tested the two together yet 😅 But if we can get taxonomies to work with the blog it would probably be really nice!

@clarkwinkelmann I'm trying to test fof/taxonomies on beta13 but can't activate it.

This is the error in the log:

hrvoje_hr Just a quick googling and search it appears that identifiers are limited to 64 characters. As for an actual solution I think the plugin might need an update or something of that nature.

tankerkiller125 yeah, you're right. With my table prefix that's exactly one letter too much.

I will remove the prefix for now.

EDIT #2: That's solved with prefix removal, but this is a new error:
