How do I put users into groups?

I've just got my flarum forum which is hosted, just as a warning in case you think I installed it or played with the config.php which I didn't (and can't).

I've created a new group, and I want to put a couple of users into that group. I've looked all over flarum, here and the net but haven't found anything.

I am myself in the Admin group.

Go to the users profile and click edit user. You can use the user directory extension to get a list of users. Starting with the next release, there will also be a user list in admin.

Is installing an extension something I can do as Admin from the forum, or does it require a shell? Just looked at the docs and not sure what Composer is meant to do.

adam42 It requires terminal access. It's not published yet, but there are planned docs with a more thorough explanation in a PR. See flarum/docs194/files

OK. I'll see if my hosting provider will install it without any fuss.

Actually, is there a list of common extensions that flarum generally needs which I can ask for? Not having user management makes me think there might be some other essential extensions I need. This is what I have now:

adam42 A lot of things that would conventionally be included are implemented via extensions in core. You can read more about this philosophy in our docs.

There is a certain set of bundled extensions maintained by the core team. These provide features that are very commonly used, and serve as a way for us to test the quality and comprehensiveness of our extension API. Those are installed by default with Flarum.
