It's a problem with the websockets extension. It adds new discussions to the top of the discussion list in real time, but doesn't appear to check which discussion list you are seeing.
The same problem is present and has been reported before of new discussions appearing on a user's profile page as well.
A full page refresh (F5) is required to make those discussions go away.
