Turning Flarum into a Hackernews-like forum ?

It would be nice if I can turn Flarum into a hackernews-like system. I want the users to be able to post clickable redirect link as a topic to post links to others website.

Coupled with the Gamification extension, it would be perfect !

Is there a way to do it actually ?

finkiki I think the closest your week get to this is using something like my RSS import script (which parses RSS feeds and turns them into Flarum posts). It'll give you a synopsis of the actual remote post, plus a link to the article itself.

However, you'll need to open the post in Flarum to be able to click the link and be forwarded to the remote site. I think you should at least retain the above otherwise you'll have no SEO for yourself.

It's a little out of date though s I've made several enhancements since but they are unpublished. Let me know if this is what you're looking for.

Anyways, a forum like Flarum is probably not really suitable for a link aggregator like Hackernews or Reddit.

My personal favourite in that space is Lemmy, as it also does federation through ActivityPub. Check it out: https://join-lemmy.org (written in Rust, relatively easy to self-host with Docker).

I don't see why providing a suitable tool would be against our guidelines. I think providing options makes sense. As long as the suggestion belongs in the discussion and you don't spam.

Yes Lemmy is the closest to what I want to make, but it's difficult to install and I don't need nor want my link aggregator to be federated.

So I was thinking about Forum, but apparently it,s not possible to post a link as a topic. I remember Discourse have this possibility but it's to big for my needs.

finkiki an extension could certainly do this in Flarum. But it would have to be developed.
