Turn off email notifications

Extension idea for any experienced Flarum developer who has time (so, probably no one 😁) Disable emailing.

I know that being notified about a reply is a core forum feature. But, if you have a very small community or you are using Flarum as a personal blog, you may not need it. With a small niche community, I feel like if you get loyal members they are going to visit the forum from time to time regardless and see if there are new replies.

The extension would disable emailing, and disable/hide the follow/subscription buttons and the email notification settings within profile settings.

It could also be used temporarily. The site's running very slow? You think a hacker is doing something? Flip this extension on as one of your troubleshooting steps.

Optionally, a message could be shown to members stating, FYI: Email notifications have been turned off for now. Please check back often for replies... This could show maybe in the account settings? So when the member goes to their settings to adjust notifications they will no longer see the email settings and instead will see the note.

And again, this definitely would be useful if Flarum is being used as a personal blog. And yes, I know about the no email activation extension. This hypothetical extension would replace that one.

If you want to completely hide subscription actions for members, why not remove the corresponding extension?

clarkwinkelmann Doh! It’s the obvious things and non-obvious things that escape me sometimes.

It’s probably not a very high demand type of extension. But, I guess the idea would be to just disable or pause email notifications. I guess that’s all it would have to do since you can just turn off the subscription extension for those emails.

To disable emails altogether in additional with above, you can just set the email driver in the admin settings to log. And we can throw in some css to remove the column from settings panel, might not be pretty but it works 🙂

010101 I absolutely understand the request though. Even if not much asked for. It even makes sense for Flarum to be less opinionated with this and just see email is an optional channel.

Now, by default in Flarum when new user register, the Email Notification with "someone posts in a discussion I´m following" is active.
I think I remember that someone user create a small extension to leave this option by default deactivated for new users.
I've looked for it but I can't find it. Someone remember?
