Confused about composer.json or flarum dependancies

Trying to install flarum on freebsd, but I cant quite make out what the installation documentation is asking for. I've cloned the flarum git repo and obtained the composer.json file but I cant see how its referenced by composer.

composer create-project flarum/flarum repeatedly fails on different dependencies and I'm deleting and recreating the project every time. Not sure of a better way to use this thing.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Ok, I got to the end of the dependencies and the installation was able to finish. I dont see why composer wasn't able to list all the missing packages at once, or continue the installation, but I'm sure if I read up on it I'd find the answer.

additional php packages required:
-session
-fileinfo
-dom
-curl
-pdo
-tokenizer
-pdo_mysql
-gd

If php needs additional packages beyond what is listed here I would recommend making a change here

The official instructions don't involve any git cloning. Either composer create-project is used to initialize the project, or you could clone flarum/flarum and then run composer install. But there's no benefit of using git over Composer, it just changes how the skeleton is downloaded, not the actual Flarum source code.

I see now, i misunderstood "when you're installing". Just having trouble getting php flarum install to create the db but everything else seems ok.
