Tips on building a community?

Hey there, I was wondering if anyone has any solid tips on how to attract members to join a forum. Back in the day it was so much more easier to get people to join this kind of stuff. I'm totally in love with flarum and I refuse to use platforms like discord.

(I guess I'm old school 👴)

Any tips and tricks anyone is willing to share? I'd be most appreciative ☺️

Same here (although I do use Discord, but only to offer Flarum support 🙂). I've a couple of communities - one is for Cyber Security, and it's mostly an automated news feed with some blog articles, but my main one has started to gain traction owing to what if offers.

I started the latter in 2020, and it now has 50 members. It's not been easy, and all growth has been organic / word of mouth so to speak.

-Create valuable contents. When people get value, they did join on their own volition. If you lure people to join without adding value to them, they'll leave sooner or later. Content will help you rank in search engines and ensure you're easily discovered.
This is our number one tool.
-Pay attention to speed of page load too.
-Ensure you're using https protocol. People want to be sure that their communication is secure. Do not encroach on people's privacy.
-Promote your site when the content is rich, through ads placement, sharing to socials etc
-Encourage your users to create backlinks and referrals but do not spam others site. People would discover you through those links.
