Post only to second level hierarchy tags

Hi, I'm fairly new to Flarum. I'm trying to set the permissions of our forum so that members cannot post to the primary tag. I only want to allow members to post to the second level hierarchy of a primary tag. For example, in the image below I don't want members posting to Primary. I only want to allow posts to General and Support.

mochiguy hey, you could play with the "Required Number of Secondary Tags" into the admin panel (yoursite/admin#/extension/flarum-tags). I believe that what you want to achieve could be done with a minimum secondary tag set to 1, because this setting concerns both the secondary and the sub tags.

The downside is that if you have real secondary tags your users will be able to post without subtag by selecting a secondary one.

Thinking about this, I believe those behaviors deserve to be improved in the future

mochiguy This is not really how Flarum's Tag extension is designed to work. When you nest secondary tags under a primary tag like that, it makes that secondary tag only available to be used by discussions in the primary tag.

Understandably, it's a very basic hierarchical system. There's been some work to explore infinite nesting or taxonomies (a different approach to the tag system), but more exploration or alternatives are welcome.

You may be interested in Flarum Categories which creates a visual organization more like the traditional forum systems where your desired behavior is the intended design.

Thanks ornanovitch for the feedback! That's a great suggestion and I tried it, but not totally ideal because we also have secondary tags.

I hope that this can be improved in the future!
