Bybou or Whisper

I am not able to decide. I have PM turned off to prevent spam. If I am to turn it ON, which one do you recommend ?

I didn't test newer versions of BYOBU, but on my forum (still on beta 13) I'm 0.5.8 and it works really well without any issues.

Whisper is more like messenger from Facebook, but it's still little janky with negative notifications and stuff like that.

I ended up with having a "verified member" group

Only verified members can send pm's, which Bybou allows (not sure about Whisper)
Then new users are automatically added to the "verified member" group if they meet some criteria (such number of liked posts)

This has been effective for me.

luceos In my case, no. I use a custom sql script to check the metrics.
It doesn't look hard to do with Auto Moderator. Additionally, I use CSS to hide the group (since 99% of users will have that badge). I have a example below, but the badge number would need to be looked up

Byobu was counter-intuitive and confusing for my users. Treating private messages as forum posts makes no sense to me as well, so I installed Whisper instead of it.

SnakePromise it's a private discussions extension, not a private messages extension :p

SychO it's only just the semantics. I renamed it to private messages and it works similar like other personal messages on other forums. The only thing that's missing is to use it just like regular PM systems with separated notifications like in Whisper.

I’ll be re-installing bybou eventually. I used it once upon a time and uninstalled it during an upgrade. I’ve realized since I won’t be using pusher or websockets any time soon that something like whisper doesn’t make a lot of sense for me personally. And, having private discussions with all the normal discussion features/look is nice.

I may wait though. I believe work continues on it as time allows. I saw mentions about performance, this and that… it being in “beta” still? I’ll just wait until I see that there’s a new release.

Prefer byobu system but for me need some update or options to avoid the private discussions for "all discussion" tags and only view in "private discussions" tags.
I,m await to install when go out of beta version.
