Premium extensions and themes

I have been thinking about Flarum today after some people I work for told me that they wouldn't use a product that doesn't have a price. There are many reasons behind why professional people need a price when they are looking for a product and I think they are right mostly because one needs to make money from a product in order to offer support in the long term.

If Flarum will have a premium extensions and themes platform integrated into the official website then there will be way more developers and users in my opinion. For instance integration with a marketing/advertising/payment/donation/gaming/blogging/notification/chat/social or theming platform would sell for about 15-50$, out of which the developer would keep 80-90% and the rest would be kept by Flarum.

Flarum will offer, like other forum software such as Discourse and NodeBB, managed hosting by the creators. This will hopefully fund any cost and provide sufficient support for the software in the future.

I'm not a fan of having a managed extension platform with fees. Maybe a voluntary option to enable automatic deduction of revenue to donate, yes, but I don't think that a platform that doesn't make this optional would be used by professional's looking to make some money, if they can just distribute their software without such platform.

Kakifrucht There's only the Envato market, they have higher fees than I have mentioned. Another possibility is that one could have a standardized sandbox with a premium plugin/theme before buying from a Flarum developer. Developers could have a standardised build and test system with Ioncube encryption and streaming updates from Flarum which would be much better than each extension or theme having a different way of enforcing a license and pushing updates.

A Flarum marketplace for extensions is on the roadmap. I wouldn't be surprised if it would offer paid extensions and themes for Flarum once available.
