IanM Out of curiosity, what's the intended use case for this? I've been thinking about an extension for a while to mark posts as "actionable", and marking unread at that point could somewhat accomplish this.

askvortsov I often want to come back to a discussion that I read but cannot mark as unread. Using following doesn't really do a good job. At some point there was this bookmarks extension, but it just adds another feature for functionality core already is able to support. I'm pretty glad this extension now exists 😃

Who Read also adds an unread status, but it uses an additional database column to achieve it and is intended to be made visible to other users, so it's a bit different in its use case.

IanM it is not shown on menu. But is is shown when I disable discussion cards extension.

I took a look at this, and is appears to be working correctly, both with and without discussion cards enabled.

I see from your screenshot, that the example you are giving is of a discussion which is already unread, in which case, the 'mark unread' option will not appear anyway.

Examples:

Two discussions, as cards, on the left the discussion is read (color), on the right the discussion is unread (greyscale):

The read discussion on the left shows the 'mark unread' option:

The unread discussion on the right does not show the option, as it would not make sense to show the option on an already unread discussion:

I hope that clears things up for you on how the extension is supposed to function 🙂

That's a nice extension, thanks. A member of my forum asked me for such a functionality and I'm glad it exists 👍🏻 How difficult it would be to improve it, so that one can select a particular post in a discussion and choose to "mark unread from here"?

That's a really nice extension.

I know, the description says "Mark a discussion as unread", but is it somehow possible to only mark a post of a discussion as unread, because in most cases I just want to read the last post, but because of no time answering it, I want to mark it unread to find it later, because I read my forum with the unread flag (/?q=is%3Aunread).

But with this extension the whole discussion gets marked as unread and if a discussion is pretty long, I have to scroll through the whole discussion to get everything marked as read again, expect the last entry, which could be time consuming.

Or am I just using it wrong?

maxmoon when opening a long discussion, you can simply click on "now" in the timeline [the "scrubber"] on the right of the page and it will immediately scroll to the bottom of the discussion and mark everything as read. This is a native Flarum feature. EDIT: just to complete the explanation, on mobile the scrubber is instead accessed through the title bar, but it's there as well.
